Addison Perry-Frank, candidate for Texas House, District 83 makes a statement about Gov. Greg Abbott's executive order to quarantine individuals flying in from NY, NJ, CT, and New Orleans
Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order at a press conference on March 26 that requires people flying into Texas from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New Orleans to be quarantined for 14 days or for the duration of their stay, whichever is shorter, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Texas.
"While this action help prevents the spread of the coronavirus by travel via airlines from these most infected cities and states, This leaves a question of whether the Governor is aware or will take action to stop travel from the top most infected states, including California and Washington both whos confirmed cases are higher than Connecticut's," stated Perry-Franks.
Currently, in the US, the counts are high in many states, below is the latest counts:
- State/territory Confirmed cases
- New York 39,125
- New Jersey 6,876
- California 4,019
- Washington 3,207
- Michigan 2,844
- Illinois 2,541
- Florida 2,484
- Massachusetts 2,417
- Louisiana 2,304
- Pennsylvania 1,795
- Texas 1,639
- Georgia 1,505
- Colorado 1,430
- Tennessee 1,097
- Connecticut 1,012
"We need to stay vigilant in stopping the spread of this virus, while our Governors actions yesterday quarantined travelers from some highly infected areas, some of the most infected areas are still allowed to travel without being quarantined, which seems to be a major issue for Texas," stated Perry-Franks

"While cities are enacting shelter in place orders, more cities are adding to the list, it is time that the Governor orders a statewide shelter in place, just because there are no active cases in rural towns, Scurry County, Which I live in enacted a stay at home order yesterday afternoon at 3 pm, even with no confirmed cases. This is because they know that a shelter in place order will help protect citizens by cutting down the amount of travel within the county. It is now time for Governor Abbott to act and do this statewide, along with quarantining travelers from highly infected states," stated Perry-Franks.
