The American Mesopotamian Organization calls for a United front to establish the Nineveh Plain Province and the al-Rafidein Region.

Santa Clarita, California- November 15th, 2018

Now that the Iraqi elections are behind us and a new government was finally formed, we at the American Mesopotamian Organization (AMO) are calling on all our political organizations to put their differences aside, come together just as they had done several years ago and continue with their efforts as a united front to establish the Nineveh Plain Province. Although, we are of the opinion that the best solution for the future of the victims and survivors of the ISIS genocide; the ethnoreligious minorities of Northern Iraq, is the establishment of al-Rafidein Region comprising of three new provinces (Sinjar, Talafar and Nineveh Plain), we realize that this goal will only be achieved in stages, and the most important and foremost stage being the formation of these new provinces.
The current US administration has pledged until now the sum of $300M in direct aid to ethno-religious minorities of Northern Iraq to help them return to their towns and villages and rebuild their lives. This was the result of the efforts of few organizations in DC, including our own non-profit, tax-exempt sister organization, the Restore Nineveh Now Foundation (RNNF) which took the lead in advocating for direct aid to the victims of the ISIS genocide since early November 2016.
It’s a historical fact that the AMO had co-founded the Nineveh Plain Protection Units (NPU) in 2014/2015. This force is an official Iraqi force and its soldiers and officers get their weapons and salaries from the Iraqi government. The region of the Nineveh plain is currently being rehabilitated and rebuilt and the nucleus of a  larger security force is there. This force can be expanded to include members of other communities who are residents of the Nineveh Plain. What is lacking is the political will and resolve to create the province because we believe this is an opportune time that we might not ever get again or at least might not be repeated for a long time to come.
Just like we helped co-found the NPU and just like we took the initiative and advocated for direct US aid to the areas of the Nineveh Plain and all its inhabitants, we pledge that we will lobby the US government  to help create the three new provinces and establish the proposed al-Rafidein Region.
We believe this is a momentous effort, and no one ethnic group will be able to accomplish the task on its own, hence Assyrians, Yezidis and Turkmens must work together in order to be able to achieve the required results . Therefore, the AMO is calling upon our political parties in the Homeland to extend a hand of cooperation to Yezidi and Turkmen political organizations and form a united front to establish these three provinces with the goal being the creation of the al-Rafidein region for all its citizens, regardless of their religion, sect or ethnicity.
The AMO which is registered as an American Political Organization will work diligently on behalf of Assyrians, Yezidis and Turkmens to secure their rights to establish a secure region of their own as part of a united, democratic and Federal Iraq.

We are a Grassroots Political Organization founded to influence and guide U.S. policy on matters of interest to the Assyrian American community and to work with members of Congress, regardless of their political party affiliation, and the Executive branch to support the Assyrian nation in its struggle to attain its cultural and political rights. We believe that a stable and secure Middle East, one that recognizes the rights of its indigenous people, is in the best interest of the United States of America and the international community.
