The American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) has been strategic with its nationally approved “ASOP Orthopedic Physician Extender" (OPE®) programming, which includes the full complement of medical conditions related to prefabricated orthoses for medical conditions of the lower/upper extremities and spinal anatomical structures. The OPE certification (OPE-C®) in combination with the BOC Orthotic Fitter (COF) will provide another marketable credential for the Athletic Trainer working in the orthopedic practice setting. Since 2014, ASOP has actively worked alongside select athletic training curriculums employing the first OPE® programs.
Athletic Trainers interested in securing the BOC Orthotic Fitter credential may consider the following:
A. Complete an ASOP Approved OPE® Program and successfully pass the OPE Certification exam
- or -
B. Attend an ASOP Orthotic Fitter Workshop and successfully pass the OPE Certification exam.
Both the ASOP OPE curriculum for AT Programs and the ASOP Orthotic Fitter workshop meets the entry-level course requirements for the BOC Orthotic Fitter. Additionally, candidates must show proof of 1000 hours of documented patient care, of which previous athletic training clinical hours would satisfactorily meet the hour’s requirement.
Athletic Training Program Directors that are interested in partnering with ASOP as an Approved OPE® curriculum may visit www.ASOPorthoExtender.info for more information.
Please visit www.castingworkshop.com for select dates and cities to attend an ASOP Orthotic Fitter Workshop along with www.bocusa.org for more information on the COF certification.
