Man’s Best Friend Goes for Walks and Snarks in America’s Oldest City

Author and his Labrador discuss history, engage in whimsical conversations

St. Augustine, FL – July 1, 2019 –– Author Gary Williams and his Labrador retriever, Guenevere (Guen), take daily walks in the historic streets of St. Augustine, Florida, where they discuss its unique history and ponder such soft-hitting social topics as The Village People, bird poop, bubble wrap, sporks, skinny jeans, tennis shoes, and a superhero Dachshund named Edgar.
What began in 2016 as sporadic posts on social media sites of their morning walks and ‘talks,’ became so popular that he committed to posting daily. “What started as silly bantering between Guen and me, where man is often bested by beast, garnered a huge following on Facebook. Her fans now include ‘Guenablers’ from across the United States and other countries. We constantly get requests to meet with folks on vacation in St. Augustine. We’ve never turned anyone down,” said Williams. Due to the popularity of these online posts, St. Augustine Social named the duo “Person, and dog, of The Year,” and the pair was featured on the cover of its Dec/Jan 2018 issue.
Williams and his coauthor, Vicky Knerly, discussed with their publisher, Shannon Raab of Suspense Publishing, the flood of positive responses received from the Walking Guen posts, and soon the idea for a series of books blossomed. Walking Guen was published in December 2018, followed by Walking Guen, Again in April 2019. Rumor has it a third Walking Guen book is in the works, replete with the grainy color photos taken by Williams with his antiquated flip phone that Guen loves to ridicule. “We all kid Gary about his flip phone, and it has even made its way into a couple of our stories, but that’s part of the charm of Walking Guen. Guen’s following is so strong, her fans are willing to forgive the grainy photos in order to get their daily fix of her antics,” said Knerly. The Walking Guen books are available online in Kindle and paperback on Amazon.com and paperback on barnesandnoble.com and booksamillion.com.
