Pelican's SnoBalls will be coming to Biscoe on next weekend! The national franchise serving "Original New Orleans SnoBalls", will be opening up its newest location at 111 Montgomery Crossing, in the lot adjacent to WalMart Supercenter in Biscoe NC.
Pelican’s SnoBalls of Biscoe announced its opening date on its business’ Facebook page. It will have its grand opening on Saturday, August 17, 2019. The hours will be 12pm-9pm daily.
With roots in Raleigh, NC, Pelican's SnoBalls has more than 100 locations, primarily in the Southeast. Each location is family-owned and operated. The Biscoe location is owned by Delana Cagle and her husband, Peter Cagle II, along with her parents, Jamie & Stephanie Hinson. Mrs. Cagle, who grew up in Star and later moved to Troy as a teenager, now lives in Asheboro. She is a graduate of East Montgomery High School and also graduated from Appalachian State University. When asked what influenced her family to open up a business in Montgomery County, Cagle responded, "We always wanted to bring something to Montgomery County. I feel like Biscoe is growing the most out of all the towns in Montgomery County."
The Cagle & Hinson family could have chosen another franchise to invest in, but she admits that Pelican's corporate office was much more supportive and helpful. They made the franchisee process very easy. She was also impressed by the rapid growth of Pelican's SnoBalls company in recent years. Cagle has a few college friends who recently opened a Pelican's franchise and they are enjoying the process. She has reached out to them for advice and questions and they have made themselves available for help.
Cagle is very excited about their first business. She's even more ecstatic that their families and the Montgomery County community have expressed tremendous support for the new store. Corporate was a little hesitant at first because of the small population of Biscoe but they were blown away by all of the businesses and traffic around the WalMart location. They have given her their full-fledged support. Pelican's will offer picnic tables and family games as she wants to promote a family fun atmosphere for everyone who comes to enjoy a SnoBall on an evening or weekend. In the outdoor seating area they will also offer cornhole, Connect Four, and other family games.
The Pelican’s menu includes 100 different SnoBalls flavors and their soft cream-like Italian ice tastes nothing like the typical crushed-ice snow cone. Traditional favorites like grape, candy apple and peach are present along with wilder variations like Fuzzy Navel, Tiger’s Blood, and Fruity Pebbles. Pelican’s SnoBalls are sugar-free, gluten-free, nut-free, and use pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. They contain no fat or cholesterol.
Pelican's SnoBalls of Biscoe will maintain all 100 flavors on their menu. But they will also offer add-ons such as snow cream, sours, marshmallows, and gummies. They also plan to create their own innovative flavors that will be exclusive to the Biscoe menu.
Cagle said, "If you taste our SnoBalls and then a snow cone, it's just a world of a difference. It's almost like the SnoBalls melts in your mouth." Her personal favorite is the Strawberry Cheesecake with cream.
Cagle admits that they are getting a late start since the typical busy season starts in February and ends in October. Although they are getting a late start, busy season typically ends in October but they do plan to open on a few weekends through November.
The new shop is finishing up the key steps in the hiring process but they are still accepting applications. They have been interviewing several young people and high school students who have applied. They are looking for employees who are friendly, outgoing, and committed to good customer service.
Cagle says they will continue to leverage social media to get the word out. They have been able to reach alot of potential customers via Facebook. Cagle says "Facebook has been great! Facebook spreads the word like no other, especially in Montgomery County." She is planning to open a store account on Instagram and Snapchat as well.
