Rowing has started up again in full force with a new collection of hopeful and willing rowers. Sessions are in full motion with training currently on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings for seniors. It has been pleasing to see the numbers steadily increase with 22 students on the books and now taking to the water. At present we have boated a novice octuple, a senior girl’s quad, a mixed senior quad and a novice double showing that the club is developing strength in depth and offering rowers the chance to try out different boat sizes.
Rowing still takes place at Bewl Reservoir under the auspices of Bewl Bridge Rowing Club with the hope that the squad develops into race crews for the upcoming Head and regatta season. Our first rowing race in the Bewl Autumn Head followed by the West Kent Indoor Rowing Championships and the British Indoor Rowing Championships in December.
Land training takes place in the sports hall gym allowing both boys and girls to train together on dedicated rowing activities designed to increase strength and core stability in the rowing boats.
With upcoming races and the exciting British Indoor Rowing Championships where we will try to retain our two year hold of the mixed indoor relay event champion title, Cranbrook School Boat Club is beginning to make a name for itself.
The amazing contribution of funds towards an eight from the CSPA will hopefully soon see Cranbrook School’s very first rowing eight take to water in competition later in the year.
