Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) and Rheinmetall Landsysteme (RLS) have jointly awarded a contract, worth £9m, to Atec Engineering Solutions to supply power distribution boxes for the British Army’s new Boxer vehicles under the Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme.

The contract ensures the Boxer vehicles will be equipped with the latest in robust power management systems, providing safe and reliable operation for British Army Boxer crews.
The work will be completed at Atec’s manufacturing facility in Manchester, which employs 20 skilled engineers and technicians, plus three apprentices currently receiving training with the company.
The contract will also support growth, including recruitment of five additional roles and two apprentices, with further recruitment planned over the next 10 years.
As a result of the contract, Atec is able to continue their investment in the latest manufacturing technologies which will support Boxer and other UK programmes. Investment will also be made in equipment, as well as wider site facilities and employee training.
As a UK-based SME and manufacturer, this success enhances the long-term security of the business, its employees, and Atec’s role in both the local and wider manufacturing community, which in turn supports the UK prosperity agenda.
John Bowden, Managing Director for Atec Engineering Solutions, said:
“Winning a position on such a pivotal military programme here in the UK has been a huge boost to the business and will create further employment here at Atec." “It has been a privilege to work closely with the teams at RBSL and RLS and the combined efforts of the team have culminated in the award of this contract, which we are delighted to receive.”
The MIV programme aims to support and enhance the UK supply chain. As such, RBSL and RLS are part of a MIV Joint Procurement Team, which has engaged suppliers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This contract award if the latest in a series of supplier contracts for the MIV programme. Learn More/...
