Poynter heading for India

Durham wicketkeeper-batsman Stuart Poynter is heading to India as part of a Cricket Ireland training camp.

Poynter is one of eight batsmen heading to Bangalore between 10-20 December as the national team gear up for their major subcontinent tour early in the new year.

The batsmen will be tasked with improving their all-round game against spin ahead of matches against an Afghanistan side containing world-class spinners in Rashid Khan & Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

“The purpose of the camps is to expose a wider pool of players to varying conditions around the world, as well as creating opportunities for more high-intensity skills-based sessions leading into major tours and tournaments.” said Graham Ford, Ireland head coach.

Poynter last featured for Ireland in June against India & has played in 35 internationals for his country – 16 ODIs & 19 T20Is.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a productive season behind the stumps at Emirates Riverside, including a career-best 170 in the Specsavers County Championship match at Derbyshire.

He also won Fielder of the Year at the Club’s end of season awards.

Durham County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Durham. Since the 2014 season the Twenty20 team has been called the Durham Jets.
