June 2nd, 2021 * New York, NY — Eric Leone is one of several Smooth Jazz artists whose music will be featured on the popular CD101.9 show, “Jazz From The City”, hosted by one of New York City’s radio DJ icons, Ken “Spider” Webb.
On Sunday, June 6th Eric along with, Candy Dulfer, Peabo Bryson and Patti Austin, will have several of their songs spun by the incomparable "Spider" Webb, as he does every Sunday on his show that is an online homage to his 'Jazz From The City' originally broadcast from 1982 to 2000.
This new show of Spider's is referred to as the JFC Bonus Hours' Radio Show with Ken "Spider" Webb with music of everything that the original show was, and more. Each week Ken features four unforgettable artists from the past, blended with current rising stars, including those who have created music that "needs to be heard". "The show is a fresh look back, and a fabulous look forward with music you may have forgotten, but I haven't" says Ken with a big smile.
For all of you that remember R&B radio of the 70's, WBLS in New York was one of the leaders of that sound with Ken "Spider" Webb at the forefront of it, and for Eric Leone, that was when he was starting out in music with his brothers and sisters in a Funk/R&B band. WBLS was the station that all of the other urban stations, such as WKND in Hartford, CT. where Eric grew up in nearby Bloomfield, got their playlists from, and Ken was the DJ setting the tone for what music artists like him, and young people, listened to.
In 1971 when Program Director and radio personality, Frankie Crocker, of WBLS-FM selected Ken as their very first morning radio personality, Ken would "redefine" morning radio for urban radio stations all the way until 1997 when his daughter, Teri Webb, joined forces with him, and they became Webb & Company.
It was this kind of music influence for Eric Leone who grew up surrounded by music in a household of musicians that led him, his brother Joe, and two sisters, Laura and Sherise, to form their own group, and they would gig doing top 40 R&B Funk & Soul songs coming off the playlists that a Webb & Company spun.
Although Eric performed with his family group doing Funk/R&B covers, jazz was always at his core. Eric graduated from the Hartford Conservatory School of Music where he studied jazz guitar. He is also a very accomplished pianist, drummer, bass guitarist, and saxophone player. After graduating from the Conservatory, Eric joined numerous R&B bands, including–The Touch Band, Floyd Patterson Jr. and Ring Side, Style, and Pizzazz.
Soon after, Leone met with producer/ songwriter Yasha Barjona of Hush Productions. Barjona discovered not only Eric’s profusion with instruments but also his producing and song writing ability. As a result of this meeting, Eric would write several songs for Barjona, including one for the John White CD entitled "NIGHT PEOPLE" by Geffen Records.
Eric considers it an honor to be featured by Ken "Spider" Webb, and sees it as a return home affirmation and acknowledgement of his musical roots.
