Florida Filmmaker brings love of Puerto Rico to his Projects

Meet Filmmaker Emilio Luis Roman III

Emilio Luis Roman III brings to location Film Group Films honoring the Spanish language. Inspired by Orlando Independent Filmmakers, he set out to make a comedy film. He noticed that their festival really didn’t have any Spanish or even Spanglish Films despite being based in Central Florida. He knew what he had to do.  Make a comedy that brings the language to the screen with lots of laughter.

In 2014 Emilio made his first music video with borrowed cameras from his School's computer lab. That was all he needed, to know that he found his calling of being the best filmmaker he can be for life. This led Emilio to attend School for television production and editing.  After he traveled to create content for the Industry.  He was not satisfied and decided to get his Master's from Full Sail University.  He continues to perfect his skills by working on every production he can.

Like all Filmmakers, everything isn’t always easy and challenges come up. But with passion and a nothing will stop him attitude, Emilio overcomes and gets it done.  One such challenge he faced was how to fund his pilot series and the first episode of “Old Cuban”.  He sought help by taking it to the airwaves on the radio show Que Pasa Polk, a Spanish Government television show for Polk county. This was a bright spot in his career, as he was able to talk about episodes of the series with the Host and a Representative from The Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce.

Emilio took the project to Dolphin Image Studios and pitched it.  They loved it and donated their time and resources to “Old Cuban”.
Together with family, friends, The Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce, and Dolphin Image Studios, the project came to life.  He looks forward to doing more with it Old Cuban as it makes its way through festivals while he continues to develop the series. Emilio would like to thank his mother for supporting him in his dreams and his Grandfather for the goofy inspirational character for his series Old Cuban

He tells us his dream project would be his documentary on Puerto Rico and the Black Flag Revolution.  "Between the fire, corruption, and chaos, the little island of Puerto Rico has seen better days" he explains.  Clearly, Emilio’s love for Puerto Rico runs deep.

If your a filmmaker just starting out, Emilio's advice is to make it about what you know and bring your own experiences into your project.
