Irish Interest Christmas video pulls on Irish heartstrings

This year it's all about love

We wanted to convey a feeling of Irishness that would resonate with any Irish person whoever spent a Christmas away from Ireland. We all know about the annual return of Irish people arriving in Dublin Airport to be emotionally greeted by friends and families and this led us to think about what it is actually like for those who don’t make it to Arrivals in Irish airports at Christmas time.

Far away from Ireland at Christmastime
It was a protracted exercise trying to combine the feelings of love, loneliness, homesickness and being from the Old Country as Christmas approaches. We also needed a genuine backdrop that featured real snow, which is the core theme of any Christmas presentation, even in these climate-challenged times. Once we had the idea in the box, we then needed the crew, actors, and support out at the location. This was no easy task as they were literally continents apart.

The luck of the Irish
The biggest challenge we faced though was: how to convey our message that is essentially about Irish literature? The storyline we came up with was, of course, based on love and this carried us the distance. We quickly learned that product placement takes a back seat and in every sense of the word this is true for our video.

Window of opportunity
An Irish actress once said that when opportunities arrive, they don’t say; “I’m here to hang around, use me anytime you like.” That’s pretty much how it was for the making of our Christmas video. We had one shot where everyone including the weather was in agreement. In the end we got the scenes we wanted or as near to them as possible. Given our budget and the other constraints, the result is pretty good.

Merry Christmas
