‘SEEKING A BETTER LIFE’

Ismaila Jallow has recently finished studying an honours degree in digital filmmaking at SAE Oxford. Ismaila is originally from The Gambia where he spent his early childhood before coming to the UK. Before graduation, Ismaila had already gained recognition from his documentary film ‘SEEKING A BETTER LIFE’ which he wrote, produced and directed whilst studying at Oxford. Ismaila Jallow is now based in Odiham Hampshire a short hop to the M3 corridor.Jallow Black’s new documentary film ‘SEEKING A BETTER LIFE’ is a story of an African-Caribbean man that came to the UK destitute, without a penny to his name and limited education. But with drive and passion he was determined to succeed, this is the story of how he became the first Afro-Caribbean person to open and own a restaurant in Aldershot.This story is about real life and real people who have endured physical hardships and racial discrimination but have successfully forged ahead despite all the hurdles they faced. It is a story that may offer hope to others who may lack the confidence or identity, it demonstrates that the impossible is achievable no matter what your race, creed or background. ‘SEEKING A BETTER LIFE’ was recognised by Docamedia L.L.C second shot documentary festival selection committee who have invited me to complete and sign a licencing agreement for a distribution deal to show the documentary in colleges and universities across America amongst other benefits.Making the documentary was a difficult and emotional journey, when I first approached Dave Condell with my proposition to make a short documentary film about him, initially he was reluctant but was willing to share his story if it will inspire others and offer hope to others who lack confidence.
