Mobile game finances solar energy in rural communities.
The Battle of Polytopia, a popular mobile strategy game are investing profits in solar energy companies.
The game developer has entered into a cooperation with Trine, a Swedish company that offers the opportunity to invest in loans to solar energy contractors in emerging markets which in turn uses the loans to offer rural communities solar energy.
In the game, you can buy different tribes, one of them are named the Zebasi. All profits from the sale of Zebasi tribes are now invested in Trine loans which can result in a yearly reduction of CO2 emissions of up to 500 tons a year.
"That way, we help create awareness around climate change and that there are smart solutions that can help". Says Felix af Ekenstam, founder of Midjiwan AB / The Battle of Polytopia.
“We are really happy to partner up with Midwijan. Not only have they created a great game that a lot of Trine´s employees are playing, but also shows that there are many ways to contribute to fighting climate change if we all do our part.” Andreas Lehner, co-founder and COO of Trine.
Investing profits from mobile games in environmental projects is so far relatively rare. This form of creative entrepreneurship will be important if the world is to switch from fossil to renewable energy. Midjiwan will continue to be open to similar forms of cooperations with companies that offer solutions that benefit the environment.
