BROOKLYN, New York City-March 20, 2018—If you’re tired of hearing about yet another start-up clothing brand for hip, young consumers, NY-based entrepreneur Joseph Zigelboum has put a twist on his brand that is sure to get people talking.
“We’re kind of a closed club,” says Zigelboum. “You have to take a quiz to get in.”
A bold move, to be sure. But where did this idea come from?
Brooklyn-born Zigelboum explains that he started the brand as a pushback against older generations classifying millennials as hopeless.
“The word “millennial” is used all the time as a negative connotation for lazy and entitled youth obsessed with instant gratification,” says Zigelboum. “Yet plenty of millennials are out there absolutely crushing it and proving this to be completely incorrect!
“Millennial City is a brand for young people who refuse to apologize for being born in the digital age. It’s for millennials who live an urban, fast-paced lifestyle, whether in reality or simply in the genuine attitude and edge they show to the world. It turns the concept of entitled youth on its head. It reclaims the word “millennial” and owns it”.
But why a quiz? What does Zigelboum hope to achieve with this unique approach?
“We don’t take ourselves too seriously as a brand”, he explains, “despite how it may sound! But at the same time, we’re a brand for millennials, not just your average Joe on the street.”
He continues, “It really isn’t about excluding people. Instead, it’s about making millennials feel included. And the amazing thing is how many people responded to the quiz!”
The Millennial City range of clothing certainly encapsulates the message that Zigelboum is trying to get across. It manages to straddle the line between edgy and comfortable without ever looking like it’s trying too hard.
“Think understated luxury with a sporty edge!” laughs Zigelboum.
“These are street-inspired pieces that can easily transition from work to the gym to the bar, all while looking fierce and fresh. After all, millennials are too busy taking over the world to fuss over which outfits to wear each morning!”
New York Entrepreneur Won’t Let You Buy His Wares Unless You First Take a Quiz
Another obnoxious millennial idea, or a response to overwhelming criticsm?
Millennial City is more than just a brand; it's a movement and lifestyle. The concept of the brand is to empower millennials to not be ashamed of the fact that they are Millennials and to own it. We believe that Millennials are super smart and hard-working, and shouldn't have to deal with the negative connotation often associated with the term. We are a closed club and only sell clothing to people who take our quiz and qualify.
