Often the first question officers ask in a case of male on female violence is if the survivor knows the man or is in a relationship. Such is asked in an attempt to establish a domestic violence scenario. But actually, many females are recipuents of stranger violence. Of course males can be recipuents also. Still, there are tons of programs and resources for domestic violence survivors, and that is fine. We need just as much for stranger violence survivors.
Research suggests that women are three times as likely to endure this as men, and are significantly more likely to be injured during such. In fact, at least 40% of females ages 12 and above have encountered it, and those who reach the age of 12 are expected to. We are speaking of stranger violence-"Assaults and attempts in which the victim did not know any of the offenders." Much attention is given to domestic violence wherein the victim is in some form of relationship with an offender, but one stranger violence survivor says just as much awareness is due stranger violence. Our extraordinarily strong and beloved favorite Research Scientist Greshun De Bouse was a recipient of stranger violence just days ago with the assailant threatening to kill her specifically on Thursday, October 1, 2020. De Bouse states she does not know the young man and had never seen him prior to that horrific day. Like Greshun, many women have been subjected to some form of violence by an unknown assailant, and she wants awareness raised, resources allocated, and resolutions reached concerning such stranger violence. With her "lemonade" mentality, Greshun is taking action for stranger violence awareness with the founding of National Stranger Violence Awareness Month™ or SVAM™ to "raise awareness of the plethora of violent crimes committed against women by strangers," according to the website. Now the entire month of October will now raise awareness of stranger violence equal to that of domestic violence. Greshun had this to say.
My recent stranger violence experience with the assailant providing specific details of how he would kill me, the date he will kill me, amd the location where he would dump my body has been absolutely devastating. In addition, observing him beat an elderly woman then come after me to pistol whip as he said, was absolutely traumatizing. I am grateful to the lady corporals of Shreveport Police Department who responded with compassion and understanding, and I am grateful to Shreveport Police Department for their diligence in this case. The assailant still is at large and we need your help to locate this maniacal societal threat and ensure he can not hurt anyone else.
We love our Greshun De Bouse and must protect her as she is a great asset to our world. To help Greshun and the Shreveport Police Department, a photo of the assailant is included with this article.
Violent Assailant at Large
Call Shreveport Police Department at 318.673.7300 or Shreveport Crimestoppers at 318.673.7373 if you recognize this man or have any information on him or his whereabouts. The capture of this violent man will be a great start to National Stranger Violence Awareness Month celebrated starting tomorrow-October 1.
The month of October will be dedicated to educating the public on stranger violence, possible causes, and resources needed for survivors. We'll be celebrating this worthy cause!#SVAM4
