SPONSORS THE FREE “2019 HOUSING RESOURCE FAIR”

 IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONGRESSMAN GREGORY MEEKS, SENATOR LEORY COMRIE, COUNCIL MEMBER I. DANEEK MILLER AND COUNCIL MEMBER ADRIENNE E. ADAMS 

DURING “NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH, JUNE 2019

 

June is “National Homeownership Month!” The 2019 Presidential Proclamation states: “Homeownership continues to be an important option for many Americans to invest in their communities, build wealth and achieve the “American Dream.” The “National Association of Realtors is “recognizing the heroes that make homeownership thrive while building strong communities, creating generational wealth for families and boosting our economy.” In a recent report the Center For New York City Neighborhoods recognizes that “Affordable homeownership is a key building block of a more inclusive and equitable New York…” And that Working - and middle – class communities depend on homeownership as an engine for economic mobility – and with vast economic inequality in New York City, preserving affordable homeownership is more important than ever.”

2019 HOUSING RESOURCE FAIR -- Monday, June 17, 2010 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm

At

SUNY Queens EOC, 158-29 Archer Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11433

At the “Housing Resource Fair,” the community will learn and receive essential information about resources and programs in workshop presentations from experts on affordable homeownership including down payment and closing cost assistance, sources of home improvement grants and financing, how to save on property taxes, rental assistance programs, housing options for senior citizens and how to recognize and avoid homeowner scams.
“Housing Resource Fair” exhibitors will be on hand from the private sector to meet with the public and provide informational literature at resource tables including: lending institutions, realtors, insurance companies, and home inspectors. Participating agencies from New York City government include: the Fire Department, Department of Finance, Police Department, Commission On Human Rights, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), Department of Buildings (DOB), and the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA).

NHSJ is a non-profit, HUD-approved housing counseling agency that has continuously served Southeast Queens and neighboring communities since 1974. In 2018, NHSJ’s work in homeownership, rehab lending and foreclosure prevention added $21,738,653 of value to the communities in our service area.
