How to Care and Maintain Stainless Steel Welded Pipes?

Stainless steel welded pipes are widely used in construction, chemical, food and other industries due to their strong corrosion resistance and high strength. Their service life is affected by many factors, ranging from a few years to decades. So how can we maintain and care for stainless steel welded pipes in daily life to extend their service life?

 

1. Clean regularly to keep it clean
 
Regular cleaning is the basic work to maintain the good condition of stainless steel welded pipes. As time goes by, dust, oil and various corrosive substances will adhere to the surface of stainless steel welded pipes. If they are not cleaned in time, it will not only affect the appearance, but also may corrode the surface of the welded pipe and reduce its corrosion resistance. When cleaning, first prepare the appropriate tools and cleaning agents. You can choose a soft towel, sponge or soft brush, and avoid using hard tools such as steel wool to avoid scratching the surface of the welded pipe. For cleaning agents, be sure to choose stainless steel cleaning agents produced by regular manufacturers, and do not use cleaning agents containing strong acids or alkalis to prevent damage to the welded pipe.
 
2. Choosing the right cleaning products
 
The choice of cleaning products is directly related to the maintenance effect of stainless steel welded pipes. Improper cleaning products will cause irreversible damage to the welded pipes. For example, although chlorine-containing detergents have a certain cleaning power, the chloride ions in them are easy to react chemically with stainless steel and corrode the surface of the welded pipe. Long-term use may cause pitting and rust on the surface, seriously affecting the appearance and service life. To avoid such problems, you can use a neutral detergent with a pH close to 7. It is mild and non-irritating. It can effectively remove common stains without damaging the passivation film on the surface of the welded pipe, thus ensuring the corrosion resistance of the welded pipe. For example, stainless steel sinks and faucets used in daily kitchens can always remain bright and new after being wiped with a neutral detergent.
 
For heavy oil pollution or special stains, special cleaning agents are a good choice. This type of cleaning agent is highly targeted and contains special formulas that can quickly decompose stubborn stains, such as stainless steel special degreasing agents and rust removers, which can deeply clean gaps and hard-to-reach areas without negatively affecting the material of the welded pipe.
 
3. Avoid scratches and take good care
 
Once the surface of the stainless steel welded pipe is scratched, it is like breaking its defensive "armor", which not only affects the appearance, but also destroys the passivation film on its surface. This passivation film is the key line of defense for the stainless steel welded pipe to resist external corrosion. Once damaged, corrosive substances can easily take advantage of the situation and accelerate the corrosion process of the welded pipe, greatly shortening its service life. In daily life, we should avoid using sharp and rough cleaning tools such as steel wool. Steel wool is hard and can easily leave scratches on the surface of the welded pipe during wiping, which can cause corrosion.
 
When moving stainless steel welded pipes, you must be extra careful and handle them with care to avoid collisions with sharp objects. You can also wrap a layer of soft protective material on the surface of the welded pipe, such as foam, plastic film, etc., to act as a buffer during transportation and prevent scratches. At the construction site, place stainless steel welded pipes separately from other building materials to avoid scratches caused by friction during movement.
 
4. Pay attention to the use environment
 
Although stainless steel welded pipes have excellent corrosion resistance, the impact of the use environment on their lifespan cannot be underestimated. In harsh environments, the passivation film on the surface of the welded pipe is easily damaged, and the risk of corrosion is greatly increased. For example, in coastal areas, sea fog carries a large amount of chloride ions. Once these chloride ions come into contact with stainless steel welded pipes, they will attack their passivation film, accelerate the corrosion process, and cause rust spots to quickly appear on the surface of the welded pipes. In chemical plants, electroplating plants and other areas, the air is filled with various acidic or alkaline gases, which will react chemically with the surface of the welded pipe and cause corrosion. If stainless steel welded pipes are used in such special environments, effective protective measures must be taken.
 
For example, anti-corrosion paint can be applied to the surface of the welded pipe to form an additional protective film to block the erosion of external corrosive substances; protective sleeves can also be installed to further protect the welded pipe. In addition, welded pipes in harsh environments should be inspected regularly to detect potential problems and deal with them in time to ensure their normal use.
 
5. Do a good job in anti-corrosion
 
Good anti-corrosion work is very important for stainless steel welded pipes, which is directly related to the service life and performance of the welded pipes. Even though the stainless steel welded pipe itself has a certain corrosion resistance, its surface may still be corroded by various corrosive substances in a complex use environment.
Coating treatment is a common and effective anti-corrosion method. Anti-corrosion paint, such as epoxy resin paint, polyurethane paint, etc., is applied to the surface of stainless steel welded pipes. After drying, these paints will form a tight protective film, which will separate the welded pipes from external corrosive substances and play a protective role.
Using preservatives is also a good choice, such as stainless steel passivation liquid, which can react chemically with the surface of stainless steel to form a denser and more stable passivation film, significantly improving the corrosion resistance of stainless steel welded pipes.
