Sheriff Jayson Richardson was officially nominated for sheriff last week by the citizens of DeSoto Parish. Richardson’s team secured the nomination by canvassing the parish and obtaining signatures of registered voters on a nominating petition. The nomination petitions were certified by DeSoto Parish Registrar of Voters Deborah B. Stewart.
The nomination procedure allows Richardson to be an official candidate for Sheriff during candidate qualifying in July for the November 6th election.
“This was a great opportunity for my team and myself to go out and visit with folks from all corners of the parish to listen their concerns and to be accessible to them. I am grateful to the hundreds of people who signed our petition and look forward to personally visiting many more as our campaign continues to grow,” said Sheriff Richardson.
Richardson is only the second candidate in recent history to earn a spot on the election ballot by succeeding in the nomination process, after Judge Amy Burford McCartney’s nomination, and eventual election, in 2016.
