Luke Zwanziger Wins Best Feature Screenplay at HorrorOrigins Film Festival 2021

Screenwriter Luke Zwanziger is ecstatic that he has won this award for his favorite genre of film.

November 15, 2021 * Hollywood, CA. ~ The HorrOrigins Film Festival 2021 announced 'BIOLOGICAL' by Luke Zwanziger as Best Feature Screenplay. The script was also an official selection at Oregon Scream Week, and Zwanzinger couldn't be happier that his work was selected by the judges at this year's competition.

HorrOrigins provides all winners industry mentor meetings. Past meetings have included Barbara Muschietti (IT, IT: Chapter 2), Patrik Andersson (Midsommar), James Kniest (Annabelle, Hush, Haunting of Bly Mannor) Xavier, Neal-Burgin (Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror). Films screened at HorrOrigins have screened at Cannes, TIFF, Screamfest, Filmfest, and more.

The Logline for BIOLOGICAL reads: While on a romantic cabin getaway, a local politician struggling with infertility is haunted by the spectre of a dead child from her distant past, leading them to uncover the graves of countless foster children.

On the cusp of becoming a father, this story about the human desire to start a family and our past coming back to haunt us is very prescient. Zwanziger was inspired emotionally by "driven" horror stories from the likes of Jennifer Kent, Guillermo del Toro, and Mike Flanagan. He wanted to tell a ghost story that addressed the concerns and fears of starting a family later in life.

Zwanziger has worked on a variety of projects including Corronaville with Emily James (BBC Storyville, A&E Indie Fund). In the past year his scripts have placed in contests including PAGE Awards, ISA Emerging Writers, FilmLabTv, and more.  He recently debuted his improvised dramedy GWEN at Eastern Oregon Film Festival and his horror short THE INSOMNIAC: SPIDERS at The Thing in the Basement Festival.

A consummate filmmaker, Zwanziger is directing a 1970s horror-comedy pilot “John Sunshine’s Lost Rock and Roll Tapes” in early 2022. John Sunshine is Executive Producer Alice Wells starring Dan Shaked (Body of Proof, The Onion News Network), David J Keogh. Consulting producers Tasha Hardy (The Big Picture with Kal Penn) and John Lehr (10 Items or Less, Quick Draw). The pilot is being produced by Cordell Pictures.

"We believe Luke is writing the type of horror and psychological thrillers that we remember from the Stephen King stories that mix real human haunts that lives inside all of us" says Robert Walker of Smith Young Talent Agency.
