New economic development initiative of the Mayor of the Georgian capital city.

The high achieving, young  and energetic Mayor of the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi - Mr. Kakha Kaladze has included the city’s night time economy in his pre-election pledge. The Mayor’s election program outlined specific measures aimed at development of night time economy including integration of transport policy in night time concept, creation of night touristic routes, stimulation of small and medium size enterprises, development of city suburbs, repurposing former industrial areas and creating new jobs.

Along with other measures, the law on noise control came into force from the August last year.

Tbilisi is booming today - nightlife, wine, restaurants, hotels, hospitality, culture, entertainment industry, music festivals, exhibitions and fashion, these are the fields which are growing daily.

Unique mixture of ancient, eastern-western, post soviet and modern architecture makes the City highly attractive day and night.

It is noteworthy that Tbilisi’s underground club scene drove social changes and became important hotspot for Eastern European youth and clubgoers.

During last few years, tourist inflow is significantly increasing in the country and along with it the quality and the services are improving. 7.5 million tourists visited Georgia last year. According to 2012 data, more than 180 thousand people were employed in tourism industry. This indicator is gradually increasing every year. The State Plan for Tourism Development envisages significant improvement of this segment, which will manifest itself in creating new jobs and in generating additional revenues in excess of 6.6 million USD per annum.

Many local brands have already captured attention of international press. Hotels and restaurants are fastest growing segment in Tbilisi. Scaling up and regeneration is the goal of backing and supporting new economic cluster.

Short while ago, the Mayor of Tbilisi has entrusted night time economy development project to renowned TV producer, musician and experienced manager Mr. Sergi Gvarjaladze.

Mr. Gvarjaladze was one of most prominent representatives of Underground Scene in the 90s. Over the years, he played his role in development of culture and subculture through his projects, movies and TV programs. Mr. Gvarjaladze was also actively involved in opposing movements to carry out social changes in the country.

With him as the head of nighttime economy development, Tbilisi is going to have a project leader, who is rebel musician one hand and experienced manager on the other.
