Architecture firm Moody Nolan and Messer Construction Co. have partnered with The Housing Fund to build the first home for Nashville’s Community Land Trust. The house will be built on one of the 15 properties, donated to The Housing Fund, in partnership with The Barnes Trust Fund and the Metro Nashville Mayor’s office.
“Our Community Land Trust is one of the crucial tools we are using to address our affordable housing needs, so it’s great to see its first project begin to come to life,” said Mayor David Briley. “Leveraging partnerships like this is one of the key components of my Under One Roof 2029 plan which will invest $150 million in the Barnes Fund over the next decade. I want to thank these parties for being partners in our city’s creation of more affordable housing.”
The Community Land Trust (CLT) is a stewardship program to protect community assets and provide permanent affordable housing for generations of lower-income families and communities in Nashville.
"We are excited to be a part of the revitalization happening throughout Nashville," said Marshall Crawford, President and CEO of The Housing Fund. "Our goal is to create access to affordable and healthy places for low -and moderate- income people to live.”
“We look forward to implementing what we believe to be an excellent representation of the types of public-private partnerships Mayor Briley outlined in his “Under One Roof 2029” plan, said Dominique Pryor-Anderson, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Engagement, and manager of the Community Land Trust.
Designed by Moody Nolan, the Legacy House will be built by the project’s building partner, Messer Construction Co., using community donations. Messer will manage the construction of the home, donate labor and coordinate the delivery, shipment and storage of contributed materials.
“We’re honored to be the construction partner in this project and we’re excited to work with the community to bring the Legacy House to fruition,” said Tom Lampe, Messer vice president and Nashville region leader. "Rallying the local subcontracting community to get involved with this effort was a natural fit for us based on our close relationships. We look out for each other in Nashville and the community responded in a big way.”
“Moody Nolan’s Legacy Project is an initiative designed to provide deserving families with modern, appealing, and affordable homes in underserved neighborhoods,” stated Brian Tibbs, Moody Nolan partner and Director of the Nashville office. This is the second Legacy House for Moody Nolan. The first home was built in Columbus Ohio.
"We want to begin a process of giving back to the community in a direct and tangible way - providing a superior example of affordable housing to one deserving family and hopefully establishing a viable template for others to follow," said Moody Nolan CEO Curtis Moody. "There are many hard-working families whose incomes may not qualify them for a home mortgage, but who are fully capable and committed to maintaining one. After many years of considering how we could best contribute to the community good, this idea seemed past due."
The Legacy Project House will be located at 97 Maury Street and consist of approximately 750 square feet with three bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms and a family room. An extended outdoor living area and garden will maximize the entire building site and encourage outdoor activity.
The Legacy House Project is one of three projects to be built during the initial development phase of The Housing Fund’s 15 property Community Land Trust development.
