PALM DESERT, CA-Veteran news anchor and popular talk show host Dustin Alexander-Pérez, 49, is recovering tonight after he suffered minor injuries during a home invasion that took place at approximately 7:30 P.M. Wednesday night at his Palm Desert home. Another home invasion occurred just minutes later in the vicinity.
“Two young men knocked on the door asking for someone I didn't know and I told them there was nobody here by that name. Then the one guy said he really wanted to talk to me,” said Alexander-Pérez. “I knew something was wrong and tried closing the steel security door, but the guy grabbed it and tried to push his way into our home.”
The perpetrator struggled to force his way into the home, but Alexander-Pérez was able to brace the door. However, two porthole windows in the door were broken out. The Riverside County Sheriff arrived with multiple cars and ten deputies to survey the area.
Alexander-Pérez and his room mate who doesn't wish to be identified at this time are unsure why the men targeted their home. Alexander-Pérez suffered minor injuries from flying glass, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
There is no clear description of the two men that perpetrated this crime and police are still investigating both incidents as possibly being related. Alexander-Pérez and his house companion are both staying at an undisclosed safe house until repairs can be made to the damaged structure. Police patrols have been beefed up in the area.
Alexander-Pérez does own firearms for self protection, but states that is only as a last resort option when all else fails. We will update you on this story as it develops.
