Tommie Tonea Stewart is the featured lead in the film short 'Doretha's Blues' which makes it's world premiere at this year's SXSW Film Festival.

February 14th, 2021 * Los Angeles, CA. -- Actress Tommie Tonea Stewart will star in the upcoming world premiere of 'Doretha's Blues', a film short at this year's SXSW Film Festival starting March 16th through the 20th.

'Doretha's Blues' was written and directed by Channing Godfrey Peoples, who is known for her writing on 'Miss Juneteenth' 'Queen Sugar' and 'Red'. In addition to Stewart's lead in this ensemble cast, the film also features actresses, Yolanda Davis, Kristen White, and Ashlee Loreal Davis, who portrays the young Doretha.

'Doretha's Blues' is an examination of her life when she goes out for an evening drink at her local watering hole and old memories are dredged up after watching a news story.

The film marks Ms. Stewart's 3rd film to be released in as many months since her two holiday films, 'Christmas Dilemma' and and 'First Christmas' aired on the TVOne and OWN networks in December of 2020.

Perhaps best remembered for her recurring role on the long running hit TV series 'In The Heat Of The Night' or as the ever supportive wife in the Samuel L. Jackson film, 'A Time To Kill', Ms. Stewart is happy to return to full time work as an actress after serving over 30 years as the dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.

Some of her more recent features also include the Nertflix acclaimed film, 'Come Sunday' and a cameo appearance in the hit film, 'Girl's Trip'.
