LDF 2018: Remixed Properties – Established & Sons

Last week, London was buzzing with all things creative thanks to London Design Festival (LDF). One of the top installations as highlighted by AD, Wallpaper, Vogue, and Frame (to name a few) was leading British brand, Established & Sons’ collaboration with London-based Italian multi-disciplinary artist, Lorenzo Vitturi.

Trained as a photographer, a sculptor and a cinema set designer, the artist is known for his eclectic use of materials and media, blending real life and fantasy through a wide range of artistic disciplines and a bold eye for colour.

Remixed Properties saw Vitturi create compositions using the shapes and colours of deconstructed designs, veering away from their usual functions to create an abstract display of artworks at the Established & Sons HQ at Tilney Court, by Old Street.

On the installation, Vitturi commented:

“I like to mix together things that don’t have any obvious connection to create a theme or sculpture that is made of hundreds of stories coming from different places. Usually at Established & Sons, you see single products, each with their own story and aesthetic, so I am taking fragments from the brand history and mixing them together to create a different story and offer a new perspective on the design.”

Established & Sons also used LDF as a platform to unveil a reworked version of the versatile and satisfyingly symmetrical A-Bench by Felix de Pass. The new iteration sees the bench reinterpreted with a weather-resistant design featuring a perforated steel top and an architectural powder-coated surface that’s not ordinarily used in furniture production.
