Milestone 1: Learn
The first stage of recovery is about education and self-awareness. Residents begin to understand the nature of addiction, identify their personal triggers, and develop coping mechanisms. This phase helps them:
- Gain insight into addiction and its impact on their life.
- Learn healthy habits and coping strategies.
- Develop emotional awareness and self-reflection skills.
- Build a strong foundation of trust with counselors and peers.
Once residents have a deeper understanding of addiction and have developed initial coping strategies, they move into the "Live" phase. This stage is about actively applying the skills they have learned in real-world settings. Key aspects of this milestone include:
- Practicing accountability and responsibility in daily life.
- Strengthening relationships with family, mentors, and peers.
- Engaging in structured routines, including work, volunteering, or education.
- Learning to navigate challenges without relapse.
The final milestone focuses on long-term sobriety and personal growth. Residents work on maintaining stability while also giving back to others in the recovery community. This phase emphasizes:
- Sustaining long-term sobriety and personal wellness.
- Becoming a mentor or support system for others in recovery.
- Continuing personal and professional growth.
- Developing a lifelong plan for maintaining sobriety and fulfillment.
