The Challenges and Advantages of Being a Sole-Proprietor

Most Businesses today face many challenges.

With the changing times and problems business owners face demands to have a change in solutions. What might have worked yesterday may not work today. Recognizing common mistakes and how to overcome them is necessary to continue to grow.

Being a sole-proprietor business faces the same challenges as other businesses. The difference is that you take on the challenges of owning a business alone. You won't be sharing responsibilities for running a business with anyone. And you bear the burden of economic pitfalls or gain from profits. You have to be prepared to make personal sacrifices until your business grows and is more profitable. You don't get to share in resources from another partner so there is no flexibility, and you assume multiple roles.

Time Management is of the Essence
Similarly with any type of business a sole-proprietor faces time management as a major challenge. You have to be efficient with your time by prioritizing and organizing tasks. But you have to take care that you do not over work yourself to exhaustion. This is even a bigger challenge for a sole-proprietor as he or she cannot delegate tasks to anyone else. You need to set-up work routines for yourself to ensure your customer gets the service that is required. Ideas of minimizing work-flow and cutting expenses can be obtained from the internet or from other people in business. On the subject of work-flow one article "6 reasons why work-flow is important for your business," by tallyfy.com does explain some detail on that subject. It says that mapping out your work-flow allows you to have a clear, top-level view of your business and improves on the bottom-line: get more profits.  You can determine what activities are truly necessary and what is redundant. It helps to provide better Customer Service, and improves the quality of your products and services.

Like other businesses in common it is necessary to keep up with the flow of the market, do planning, use financial management, solve problems, and change with the times and other aspects of conducting business.

The Advantages of being a Sole-Proprietor
A sole-proprietorship is beneficial and is easy to establish, and it is not necessary to register any Federal or State Government papers. Although you would need to obtain a  business license depending on the regulations in your jurisdiction, you are not subject to public disclosure as a sole-proprietor. As an owner controls everything that goes on in the business, he or she does not seek approval of anyone else. If the business has to close for some reason, the business can sell all the assets and keep what is left over. Any profit goes to the sole-proprietor and is kept to themselves without sharing with anyone.
