In the music world today, not that many new or popular artists are writing their own music, or actually performing live. As much as every day people enjoy it, and as popular it is, it lacks originality, and the substance that makes real music so genuine. Bringing original, unique music and concepts to the scene is Cerise Valdez. Reaching more and more people day by day with heartfelt songs and lyrics, all originally written and inspired, her goals and aspirations to entertain people, and give a sense of hope and purpose are quite a special thing to have now a days.
Cerise is an upcoming singer/songwriter currently residing in Los Angeles, who’s deep love and admiration for music shines through her voice. Cerise is currently writing and recording original songs with her husband and you can find numerous videos of her music on her social media. Even though most live concerts and performances are at a standstill, Cerise usually performs at local coffee shops and small venues. Perfect intimate settings for people to truly see what an artist is like and get a piece of their personality and their art.
Cerise’s love of music started early on when she would wake up her childhood home from her singing at the top of her lungs. Despite the seemingly natural love and talent, she was quite terrified to step onstage at church to sing, but that didn’t stop her from continuing. At the age of 7 her mom had her put in choir, an appropriate decision for a young girl who’s two favorite hobbies were writing, and you guessed it; singing.
After graduating high school, Cerise enrolled in college to pursue nursing. After failing classes due to spending more time writing and creating music, she made the decision to drop out. No loss there, as she wound up singing out in public, having people come up to her in tears, literally. From that pivotal moment on, it was clear that Cerise’ life as a musician was inevitable.
Inspiration comes in all sorts of various ways for all musicians, and for Cerise it is an open book. Sometimes hearing a singular chord, or rhythm is more than enough to inspire her and from there she can formulate a melody in her head to compliment it perfectly. Sometimes pop inspired, moody, emotional, and always a gospel influenced, the ever flowing ideas tend to go to her husband, and he helps to produce the song. Talk about a good collaborator to have!
Thinking lyrically, some of her biggest inspirations are Lennon Stella, Imogene Heap, and the darkly enchanting Lana Del Rey. Quite the combination when you combine the musical aspects and influence of the ever-so-talented guitar kingpin John Mayer, Grammy nominated singer Emily King, and the “lazy, sexy, comfortable” vibe of Florida native Sabrina Claudio’s contemporary R&B.
While the world is currently at a halt, you can expect that many artists and musicians have found inspiration all over, and have been working and creating during this time. Whenever the time does come that live shows are back, you can expect to see Cerise performing and doing what she loves to do. You should still expect new songs to come, whether its an album or an EP, or just a single, you can find them on social media, and hopefully when the world comes back, you will be able to come experience these unique songs in person and continue to watch Cerise grow.
“I want to encourage Men and Women to write what they feel and see vs what’s popular. To push away fear and take a moment to listen to whats around them and create. I write out of truth and emotion and I hope to encourage other’s to do the same.”
