STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - 15 AUGUST, 2024 - Midjiwan, the award-winning independent studio behind The Battle of Polytopia has today released a rework of its in-game Aquarion Tribe which first released in 2017.
Special Tribes in 4x strategy title The Battle of Polytopia offer unique units and abilities not seen in the base game. Aquarion was the first of these tribes to arrive in the game. The overhaul released today brings a raft of changes to the aquatic tribe, offering new ways for players to interact with water and become masters of the seas.
First released in Beta on Steam, the Aquarion rework is now available to The Battle of Polytopia players on Steam, the App Store and Google Play.

Notably, the rework brings mermaid tails to all Aquarion land units, now making them able to traverse water but slower to navigate land. This joins another major change with the arrival of ‘flooded terrain’ which enables land and naval units to occupy the same space for the first time in The Battle of Polytopia. Buildings can also now be built on water; with Lost Cities discoverable from deep sea ruins - the perfect base for naval warfare! Additionally, new structures such as the Atoll serve to connect waterborne cities in the absence of roads.
The overhaul also includes the arrival of new units such as Sharks, Puffers, and Jellies which offer unique traits such as surprise attacks, long-range bombardments, and defensive electric shocks respectively. Fan favorite units Tridentions and Crabs also make a return with changes such as the Crabs’ ability to “Autoflood". Now, as Crabs traverse the land, they flood the tiles they walk upon. It’s a perfect pairing for moving mermaid-tailed forces!
Christian Lövstedt, General Manager of Midjiwan, commented:“It's been several years since the Aquarion tribe was first released. The new version fully embraces the tribe's aquatic nature, introducing a wide range of new features and units. The Aquarions now truly belong in the category of special tribes.”
