(Washington, DC) In Secrets of the Kashmir Valley (new special edition), former CIA Analyst and Award-Winning Author Farhana Qazi takes us inside Kashmir to reveal the true, emotional stories of women, who struggle against all odds in the world’s most militarized zone. In 70-plus years of conflict, India, Pakistan, and China have been battling for power and control in the world’s highest peak. The women are the conflict’s prime victims and targets in Indian-held Kashmir, which the locals call an ‘occupation’—there is one soldier for every eight civilians.
Kashmir is a gendered war, and women experience conflict differently than men. This is a place where madmen, militants, and majestic armies fight for control of land that is largely untouched and coined “Paradise on earth.” Early travelers have called Kashmir “Wonderland” for its tulip gardens, boat-filled flowers gliding along Dal Lake, blue-white mountains, and fields of saffron. In this pristine valley, Kashmiri women call for freedom as protestors, political activists, and peacemakers. Some have been imprisoned for crimes they did not commit, and yet, they remain determined to change the conflict for women.
As an expert on global conflicts and women in war, Farhana has appeared in the mainstream media: CNN, BBC television and radio, Public Broadcasting Service, National Public Radio, Fox News, C-Span, Bloomberg, ABC News, MSNBC, Canadian national television, Voice of America, Al-Jazeera, The Daily Ledger Show and more.
Her new book collection includes: Secrets of the Kashmir Valley, The Untold Truths of Kashmir, and Kashmir Is Heaven Enough. She explores the reasons why Kashmir remains a forever conflict. Kashmiris keep secrets to survive another day. Learn more about how people survive the brutalities of conflict and what you can do to spread awareness.
