Foundation Launch Event to Raise Awareness About Gun Violence

Jordan's Way official launch working to prevent gun violence among youth through education, civic engagement, and advocacy.

Washington, D.C. -- A non profit Metropolitan D.C. area, Maryland based organization, Jordan’s Way,  was established by the family of Jordan Alexander Radway to raise prevention awareness of gun violence among the youth through educational programming, civic engagement, and advocacy.

Jordan, who was born and raised in Montgomery Country, MD, filled every moment of his life spreading joy, laughter, and compassion to everyone he knew. Tragically, his life was taken by gun violence at 23 years of age. The incident is a common problem in every major city in America, and the Greater Washington area has had a rise, yet another year, involving the murders of young people.

A recent survey shows that:

  • Gun violence in the U.S. reflects and intensifies this country’s long-standing racial inequities. Black Americans represent the majority of homicide and nonfatal shooting victims in the US and are far more likely than white Americans to be victimized by and exposed to assaults by gun violence.

  • Nearly 7,500 Black Americans die by gun homicide every year, a rate 10 times higher than that of white Americans.

    • The majority of Black American gun homicide victims are males between 15 and 29 years old.

    • Black males are shot and injured in gun assaults at a rate 15 times higher than white males.

  • Within the 50 cities with the highest murder rates, Black Americans are 81 percent of the victims, despite making up only 38 percent of the population.

  • This disparity means that black residents are six times more likely to be murdered than white residents in these cities.

Jordan’s Way will support the youth in the Washington, DC metropolitan area by helping to nurture their dreams and teach self-worth starting with a two day event coined “Jordan’s Weekend”.

On Saturday, September 28th, 2019 a Peace Rally will take place from 9 AM until 11 AM in the parking lot where Jordan and friend, Christian Roberts were tragically killed: 11501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring MD.

Attire: To show your support, please wear red.

Later the afternoon of September 28th, from 4 PM until 7 PM, the Foundation’s launch will take place at Karibbean Kitchen Restaurant located at 1400 Meridian Place, NW, Washington, D.C. 20010.

The donation ticket amount for this event is $25.00 (RSVP required). Proceeds will go to support Jordan's Way, a 501(C)3 (pending status).

Attire is dressy casual and parking is available along the street and also there are 2 municipal parking lots within walking distance to the restaurant.

The third event is on the following day, Sunday, September 29th and is a dedication to a continued effort throughout the remainder of the year and for the next several years, until gun violence is no longer an epidemic over the lives of young black boys and girls. "We'd like to see as many of us as possible in the community to come out to Shepherd Park Christian Church where there will be a celebration of Jordan Radway’s life and contribution to the community."

Shepherd Park Christian Church, 7900 Eastern Ave, NW, Washington, DC / Time: Service begins at 11:00 AM.

"We invite family, friends, and the community to join Jordan’s Way as we stand for peace and an end to gun violence among youth.During this time, we will honor Jordan Radway, Christian Roberts, and the most recent victim and Paint Branch High School Alumni - Damion Callery, Jr."
