Screenwriter/Director Britt Banks Signs with Smith Young Talent Agency's Literary Division

Britt Banks is the Screenwriter/Director Getting Industry Buzz with 'Blue Laces' Film Short

Friday, Oct. 7th, 2021 ll Los Angeles, CA. ~  Britt Banks is an emerging young Screenwriter who is currently in consideration to direct a horror feature film, a genre that changed the trajectory of how African Americans are portrayed and received since Jordan Peele's 'Get Out' movie in 2017, but also a genre she has enjoyed since childhood.

Although she grew up in Long Beach, California, Britt Banks is a second-generation product of the Great Migration with roots in Arkansas and Alabama. Stories of the Jim Crow South and ghost encounters passed down from her maternal grandmother fueled her desire to create supernatural-horror and dark-comedy. Britt explores themes of survival, courage, loss of loved ones, and systematic racism in her work.

It was during her senior year at the University of California, Irvine that she discovered her passion for storytelling. After working several years in the legal field, Britt decided to pursue a career in directing and writing for film and enrolled in UCLA’s Feature Film Writing certificate program. She has written, directed, and produced several award-winning short films. She has also worked at NBCUniversal in their Content & Production department.

In 2019, Britt was a guest speaker for Cal Arts "Extensions of Horror" Critical Studies Resident series. Britt is a 2020 Black Life Film Fest Grant Winner, a 2020 Screencraft Horror QF, and a 2019 winner of REVOLT TV's Hip Hop Horror contest which resulted in a 3-year distribution deal.

Banks has directed 12 projects to date, including Film shorts, made for TV, and documentaries, and is the writer on two feature film scripts, three pilot scripts, one feature film script in production, and nine short films.

In addition to her indie experience, Banks has worked on big budget feature films for Lifetime and BET and recently completed work on 'Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul' starring Regina Hall, Sterling K. Brown, and Nicole Beharie for Pinky Promise Films.

Britt's current short film is 'Blue Laces' about a teenage girl who is a member of the Crips from the Northside of Long Beach, CA. The film is making its rounds on the film festival circuit and garnering her good reviews. She recently completed the accompanying pilot script for 'Blue Laces' and has been in talks about a potential production deal for the film as a theatrical feature.

Smith Young Talent Agency is excited to represent this gifted writer and feels she will become one of Hollywood's "go to" Directors.
