Dunblane and Bridge of Allan Councillor Alastair Majury, has written to the council on behalf of a number of Bridge of Allan Residents who are concerned about tree pruning in Bridge of Allan’s “The Avenue” that is scheduled to occur between 17th and 20th

Dunblane and Bridge of Allan Councillor Alastair Majury, has written to the council on behalf of a number of Bridge of Allan Residents who are concerned about tree pruning in Bridge of Allan’s “The Avenue” that is scheduled to occur between 17th and 20th March.

The residents are concerned that the pruning activity will disturb birds that are nesting in area, and also that the pruning will be severe and negatively impact the local amenity that these trees provide when in leaf.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) advise hedge trimming and tree pruning should be avoided between March and August due to nesting birds, as this is the busiest time for nesting birds.

Dunblane and Bridge of Allan Councillor Alastair Majury said:
“I was contacted by those concerned that the proposed tree pruning would not only disturb nesting birds but if severe would also be a detrimental to the local residents who enjoy the beauty, privacy, and other benefits that these provide them and users of The Avenue.

I have written to the council and asked that they delay the pruning until after the bird nesting season has ended, and to ensure that any pruning is the minimum required in order to ensure safety. There are other trees in Bridge of Allan, away from nesting birds, that residents are keen to see the council prune, which could be pruned now instead of these.”

Pictures of trees in leaf are from Google Street view, pics not in leaf were taken by me.
